The Building Blocks as Risk Check Tool

The Building Blocks Risk Check Tool supports companies with identifying risks related to women’s rights in their value chains. The tool is based on the internationally accredited framework Building Blocks for Women’s Economic Empowerment. Internationally operating companies can use the tool to check which CSR risks they are exposed to and how to address them. The tool provides information on all the different risks women encounter in the workspace and what companies can do to prevent those risks. It also supplies practical information, such as the questions your organization should ask to identify risks, and offers case studies of other companies that have succesfully attended to women’s rights in the value chain or in the workspace.

What is women’s economic empowerment?

Women Win defines women’s economic empowerment as “the ability to withstand and recover from economic shocks, through a holistic approach that aims to increase access to economic opportunities, assets, basic services, and have a voice in economic decision-making with the agency to act on their economic decisions. Building resilience results in sustainable financial systems and incomes, decent work conditions and manageable unpaid care work ”. This includes the following principles: a holistic approach, disaster preparedness and response, financial security and dignified work, agency and ambition, shifting focus from survival to thriving, gender responsive policies and schemes and the ability to realize one’s full potential.
